While moderate anxiety can enhance alertness, excessive or prolonged anxiety undermines both performance and well-being.

Depression among athletes is often linked to injury, overtraining, identity foreclosure, and career transitions. The loss of routine, physical capability, or social support can exacerbate emotional vulnerability.


Because athletes are frequently expected to display positivity and strength, depressive symptoms may remain hidden until they become severe.



Burnout and Overtraining Syndrome


Burnout is characterized by emotional erotic exhaustion, reduced sense of accomplishment, and sport devaluation. It commonly results from prolonged exposure to high training loads, limited recovery, and lack of autonomy.


Burnout not only diminishes performance but also increases the likelihood of dropout from sport altogether.
